Question:

Will my two kitties get along??

I've got a spayed 2 year old very very very (VERY) small breed cat, and I'm about to get a 9 week old male kitten (who will be neutered whenever he is able). Is this a mistake? They're both (well, so far my older cat) indoor/outdoor cats, meaning that we let them out periodically to go poo, but they spend most the time inside.

  1. it is really hard to know if they will get along or not. first u should put them together and see how they react to the new cat or kitten. even if they dont get along they will end up having to liking the cat sooner or later. But most important make sure you show both the cats the same amount of attention becasue cats get very jelaous.

  2. Please DONT do what someone has suggested and just put them together to see how they get on.  Introductions need to be done carefully and slowly - first by scent, then sight and finally contact.  There must be millions of answers on Yahoo about this subject - I know I write about it almost every day but no-one seems to have picked up on what to do yet!

Keep your kitten in a room of his own with everything in it that he needs.  Let your other cat sniff around the door and exchange their bedding now and again so they get used to each others scent.  After a couple of days you can start to carry the kitten around the rest of your property so your other cat can see it.  After about a week you can introduce them properly - leave the door to the room open and let them meet at their own pace.  When you see them together, throw down some treats so that they associate being together as a nice thing.

When they are living together you should make sure you have plenty of litter facilities for them and separate sleeping places where they can get away from each other if they want to.

  3. They will be fine, just make sure to introduce them slowly.
