Question:

Will the mother bird come back?

We found nestlings on the ground and put them back in the nest. I know that the mom is supposed to come back but I constantly hear the little birds whining and whimpering b/c of hunger and right now it is raining outside so will the mama come back for them or should I take action? I have seen her around the nest and in the tree twice today but I am afraid that she is not coming back for them because they look VERY hungry. PLEASE HELP

  1. Not very likely.  Once the babies have been handled by humans, she is most likely to reject them.

  2. No, if you want them to live, you're going to have to become their 'mother' yourself. Depending on what kind of bird they are, feed them grubs, ground up seeds, meat, or whatever they will take.
