i have to say that in this case peta is being over the top. i hate pigeons. and seagulls. i might be said to have double standards as an animal rights person but i say shoot the *******.

People are host to a wider range of viruses than 'vermin'. Dance, clap, shag, get VD, aids, tuberculosis from drinking where we know we shouldn't...I suppose if a professional tennis player needs all his concentration on a luminous yellow moving ball, the marksman should upgrade to ballers, just to be sure.

Who cares if they have diseases? How many people do you here about catching "the pigeon disease"? (Because, heck, I've yet to hear of that complicated word the guy spoke of in the first reply). They're being killed for our convenience, no other good reason. Do they pose a serious threat in terms or illness or injury? No. In which case, they shouldn't have been shot.

Ridiculous - yes they are going over the top.  Pidgeons are vermin, they spread disease and make a disgusting mess.  Shooting them is the most humane way of killing them.

I think PETA were quite right to insist that they stop shooting down the pigeons.

There may be many pigeons in the world, but there are many other animals in the world too, people included. We can't go shooting everything that may be considered an inconvenience. I would most definitely be in jail otherwise.

I'm sure the pigeons were in that area before Wimbledon, and they weren't just getting in the way on purpose.

Pigeons ARE vermin, and they carry disease (psittacosis). They need to be controlled.

Good work Peta! So what if they carry diseases. So does every other animal including man. Pigeons are just another creature and they should have just as much right to live as any other.

PETA is an out of control organization.  I wonder when people are going to stand up and say they have had enough of them.  Will it be when they want to relocate rats from the cities instead of killing them or perhaps when they decide cockroaches should be protected?
