My husband and I are wanting to make a thank you gift basket for his old boss. He and his wife are very into wine, so I was thinking I would put a bottle or two in there. The only problem is when it comes to wine we don't know a hole in the ground from our.... Well lets just say we just don't know much about wine... Any suggestions on a good wine or two for this gift basket?

  1. You'll want to mix it up, give one red and one white if you're giving two bottles. A white wine compliments mild tastes like desserts, and red wine compliments hearty meals like chicken or fish. In terms of white wine, you can get pretty much any you please so long as the price range is above the $30 mark. As for red wine, choose between cabernet(sp) and merlot. I would recommend the merlot because it goes very well with dark meat delicacies such as steak.

  2. Farniente.

    Ferrari Carano.

    Cakebread.

  3. I can only recommend reds, because that's all I like.  If they're really into wine they'll probably like both I'm guessing.

    Anyway, some suggestions:

Black Opal merlot or cabernet sauvignon

    Rodney Strong cabernet sauvignon

    Barefoot merlot

Fat b*****d merlot or cabernet sauvignon

  4. depends what you want to spend.  jordan is a very nice cabernet for about $50.  los vascos reserve is also good.  part of a rothschild move into latin american wines.

  5. As a thank you, I like to give true Champagne from France.  You'll spend between twenty and fifty bucks, but it's very safe and always appreciated.

  6. very tricky giving someone something when you don't know the first thing of it and they are practically expert....i would suggest first you should want to know what their tastes are - do they like zinfandels, pinots etc? i have posted a link for you to order a gift from and in this case you may not need so much information.....also i would suggest getting a gift of something like a subscription to wine connoisseur

  7. I really enjoy Bonterra Organic wines.  I normally buy the Merlot or the Cabernet.  It is is readily available at most supermarkets and liquor stores.

I would also suggest a local wine (if applicable).

You can go to the vineyard and taste about 3 for $5 - $10.

I live in Virginia and there are lots to choose from in VA or MD.  I love this one Greek family vineyard in Warrenton, VA called Mediterranean.  They have delicious wines with names like:"  Romance "
