Winners and losers of 2012 season
There were many golfers during the course of the 2012 season who outplayed themselves and made a big impact on the Professional Golf Association Tour, whereas some failed to capitalise on the opportunities they had.
Rory McIlroy is one of the shining stars on the Tour, with his overall flawless game, the Northern Irish professional golfer made headlines more often than not.
He won his second major championship during the year and dominated the Tour with his exquisite shot making. The golfer finished the year as the world’s number one .
The Australian golfer, Adam Scott had his chances to win the Open Championship of 2012 but could not sustain himself under the intense pressure.
He bogeyed on the last four holes which cost him the major championship title. The Australian is one of the pioneers of Australian golf and has made laudable efforts in promoting the sport in the country.
Winning three titles on the Tour is no joke. Tiger Woods accomplished the feat, defeating all odds and silencing his critics.
The American golfer showed that he still has what it takes to win at the highest level of golf.
Placed close behind McIlroy at the second place in the rankings and earnings, the American has shown glimpses of the form that ensured his dominion on the Tour for such a long time.
Although Woods failed to win any major championship titles, he still made more than six million dollars during the course of the year.
Jim Furyk is one of the big losers of the 2012 season, as he failed to win any tournament. Even though he played an outstanding and a consistent game of golf, he could not manage to convert his top ten positions into wins.
Results could have been better for the 42-year-old, he could have held another major championship title. However, like the Australian, Scott, he could not capitalise on his lead in any of the major events.
The South African Branden Grace demonstrated excellence on the fairways and made his mark on the golfing circuit. There is plenty of potential in the South African who will definitely be a player to watch in the next season.
