Question:

Winter Wedding Ideas?

I've always invisioned an Autumn wedding, but I've really been getting into the Winter themes. Here's some of my ideas:

-Instead of a gift table, gifts would go under a giant classic Chistmas tree (all white lights).

-The color scheme would be red roses with pearl accents everywhere. He loves red roses and I love pearls! It would be a very elegant/classic look. I also like Hollies a lot, would that look good?

-Ice scuplture. But I have no idea of what! I thought about a snowman but that's a little kiddie for such a formal affair.

Lots and lots of candles!

-I have no clue about whether we want a cocktail reception or a sit-down dinner! Help!

-For drinks, would mulled apple cider, eggnog, and Irish coffee be okay?

-Totally lost on food!

-As we leave, have the guests ring jingle bells.

-I'm a little on the wild side and would love to have a red feather boa as my "warmth". But I'm afraid that might not be enough and I love the thought of a velvet little jacket, but not sure.

-I love Big Band music and Swing along with Jazz. Would it be nice to have them play softly in the background at the ceremony while the guests wait for me? Possibly play some slow Christmas tunes?

-Would miniature Christmas trees be too much for the centerpieces? Not being able to see across from you?

-Horse-drawn carriage :)?

ANYTHING else y'all could help me with? Thanks!

  1. A Christmas wedding sounds so elegant and fun.

How about a sleigh ice sculpture luge with some red lights illuminating it.

You could have a signature cocktail that is red in color.

A red and green candy bar would be cute, or if you don't want green, you could use red and white.

    Best wishes to you.

  2. you could do an ice sculpture of two angels maybe??

you siad lots of candy...maybe a candy buffet? have classic christmas candies like peppermints, candy canes, and cookies!! i don't think i like the idea of mini xmas trees for centerpeices. how about these:

    http://www.njsdesign.on.ca/images/decora...

http://www.japaneseweddingfavors.com/ima... (but more ornaments, no petals around, and you could drape strings of pearls on the branches!)

  3. Bundle up, it's going to be cold.

  4. it sounds so elegant and beautiful!!

my only concern would be having it around christmas because alot of people are a bit strapped for money around that time...you might not get the same gifts from your guests that you might have gotten at a different time of year.

  5. I got married 4 days before chrsitmans. Our colors were red white and black. I used red roses and fresh pine for my centerpieces. It was great. The holiday sesaon is my FAVORITE! I tried to incorporate that into the wedding.

  6. I would watch that movie with bob hope and bing crosby...I think it about a Christmas wedding. "White Christmas" you might get some ideas from that. sounds romantic!

  7. Here are some ideas in answer to some of your questions:

Have the ice sculpture of old man Winter blowing a storm up. It is a man's head, hair streaming behind him, blowing through puckered lips. I've seen it done in ice before, very adult, and very edgy for art.

Stick with winter comfort food for supper, all the sauces and potaoes. Roast pork? Ham? Beef tips in sauce? And I always vote for buffet. Guests get to eat what they want, in the amount they want.

I would save the swing band for the reception, and play winter or Xmas music while your gets are waiting for you to come down the aisle.

The little velvet jacket is great, so would a big white velvet hooded cape.  So would a white fur stole, or fur trimmed hooded cape. Your maids could wear a capelet of the same style. I saw a wedding where the bridal party wore the capes and stoles at the wedding, the bride wore her hood up down the aisle, and put it back for the ceremony. She had a sheath dress on underneath for the reception party.

I'm thinking snow flakes and icicles and snow for decorations at the reception. Or some sort of a fire and ice centerpiece. Crackled crystal with a candle inside would do that. Don't forget the red roses, I would put them on a textured white tablecloth that had a sheen or a shine or some depth to it, to suggest snow or ice. [a table square would work, too]

I would go crazy with a white on white cake.

The carriage depends on where you live, if there is a chance that there would be snow on the ground on wedding day, I would skip the carriage, it could be dangerous.

I think the mini trees would be cute, especially if your continue the white or the red roses theme, but it would have to be really little, or it would get into the way.

Try some braches in a vase, spray them white, or try some artificial snow in spots, and hang snowflakes from them. I have some glass snowflakes [that I got for cheap], the glas snowflakes could then be the favors for the guests at the end of the night. And you could have some red roses at the base of the tree. As the song says "like the rose, under the April snow, I was always cetain love would grow"

  8. Hi Danie and congratulations!

Ohhh....sounds fun!  I'm not trying to be a spoil sport, but some of your ideas are not "winter" ....they are more "Christmas."

So...are you having a Christmas wedding?  This would be a wedding any time from about December 15 to December 30.  Or....is it simply sometime DURING the winter.

(I live in upper Michigan so our winters are very long, so your winter wedding could be many, many months!  lol)

Anyway, I LOVE everything with a few suggestions:

-Instead of a gift table, gifts would go under a giant classic Chistmas tree (all white lights). ~ YES

-The color scheme would be red roses with pearl accents everywhere. ~ BEAUTIFUL!

-Ice scuplture. ~ WHAT ABOUT A SNOWFLAKE OR A SLEIGH?

    - Lots and lots of candles! - YES

-I have no clue about whether we want a cocktail reception or a sit-down dinner! Help! ~ DEPENDS ON THE TIME OF DAY AND YOUR BUDGET.

-For drinks, would mulled apple cider, eggnog, and Irish coffee be okay? ~ YES

-Totally lost on food! ~ AGAIN, DEPENDS ON TIME OF DAY, YOUR BUDGET, AND WHAT FOOD YOU LIKE!

-As we leave, have the guests ring jingle bells. ~ OK

-I'm a little on the wild side and would love to have a red feather boa as my "warmth". But I'm afraid that might not be enough and I love the thought of a velvet little jacket, but not sure. ~ I LOVE THE VELVET JACKET IDEA OR EVEN A VELVET CAPE.

-I love Big Band music and Swing along with Jazz. Would it be nice to have them play softly in the background at the ceremony while the guests wait for me? Possibly play some slow Christmas tunes? ~ IF IT'S AROUND CHRISTMAS....OK...IF NOT, JUST SOME NICE TUNES.  My suggestion, though....even if it IS Christmas, most people get sick of hearing Christmas songs as they are being played from November 1st on!!

-Would miniature Christmas trees be too much for the centerpieces? Not being able to see across from you? ~ DON'T LIKE THIS IDEA AT ALL. What about small sleighs filled with greens and holly:

-Horse-drawn carriage? ~ GREAT!!  LOVE THIS IDEA.

    Good luck!
