Hello all, I have a quick question (obviously). I have a Dell D820 Laptop, and I connect to the internet using wireless internet. I was wondering what device or thing I could buy to have my own connection. Like, is there something I can buy that would give me my own internet but not an internet service? Please help me!!

  1. You are going to have to get an internet service - other wise you are actually engaging in the theft of services that some one else is paying for. If it is discovered you may be charged or required to compensate the person for that usage.

The devices that I have seen that increase wi fi signal strength or reception are more geared toward the desktop computer or the wi fi hub/ router.

Really it is best to get your own.

  2. Wtf? What's the different between "Internet" and "Internet service"? Lol...

  3. You can't get the internet without a provider or being a provider yourself.

  4. Here's what you need to have in order to connect to the internet using wireless connection. You need to have an active internet account with dsl modem and a wireless router. Then, your laptop must have a wireless adapter.

  5. You already have Wi-Fi.  If your laptop is able to "connect to the internet using wireless", that is usually synonomous with Wi-Fi (aka 802.11).  The exception would be if you're using your mobile phone to connect to the internet.

What I think you're really asking for is to have your own wireless access point and a broadband connection.   Most internet providers now provide a wireless access point with the DSL modem, Cable modem, or FIOS modem.  Do some research as to what's available in your area, and what equipment is standard.  Worst case scenario is that the internet provider only provides a modem, and you've got to get your own access point.

Maybe what you're asking is to have your own private home wireless LAN.  If that's the case all you need to buy is a wireless access point.

If you're asking how to extend the range of your computer's Wi-Fi so you can connect to a neighbor's network without permission, you're on your own.
