Wireless Lighting control?

I want to install a few lights in my living room and control them (on/off/dim) from a wireless remote. What is the simplest possible solution ?

  1. X10 or Insteon controllers. Basically you have a wireless transmitter and a receiver that send a coded signal over house wiring to a lamp in a i.d. equipped socket. Pushing a button on the handheld transmitter turns on/off/dims the lamp.

    There are various modules available to build a simple or complex system. Your problem is a simple application for either system. To some extent the two systems are compatible/mixable.

  3. Buy lights that already have that feature. I have a couple of ceiling fans with light assemblies that are controlled by remote control. One has an actual hand-held remote. The other has a control panel that mounts on the wall in a standard double-gang junction box.
