Question:

Wireless Modem keeps dropping out?

Okay this is really pissing me off, I just got this new Belkin wireless modem/router (ADSL2+/VOIP) and it's all working fine, no problems but every couple of hours or so, it just drops out.

I have it plugged into a wall socket in another room and my PC in one room (which has one of those USB wireless adaptors), and every few hours it's like it just stops transmitting a signal, I can't find it on on my available networks list.

It's definitely not something to do with the adaptor because it still picks up other networks fine just not my modem...

And I don't think range seems to be a problem because I get maximum speed when it is connected.

The only way to fix it is to restart the modem, which ordinarily wouldn't be so annoying but I only have one phone socket in my house and it's not in the computer room... so yeah

Anyone know wtf is going on?

  1. Change the modem

  2. This reminds me of a problem I had with my cable modem and the DHCP lease times, albeit mine was every 24 hours whereas yours is every couple of hours.

Regardless, I think it's a problem with the wireless router.  Check the manual, or go online to Belin's website, to find out how to reset the wireless router to factory defaults.  Most have a little button in back you have to hold for 60 seconds or something similar, but not all.  I'd try that first but if it doesn't help, try replacing it.

Two other things though, I take it you've tried moving the router..?  Also, have you tried this without any security encryption like WEP or WPA...?  Maybe your computer operating system isn't %100 compatible with the encryption and it's bugging out when it tries to renew the connection with the encryption key.  I'd try it with it disabled and then again starting with the lowest encryption (WEP) and move up from there to see if anything changes.

Hope this helps, let us know what happened....
