Wireless access on ASUS Eee PC

Question

When trying to set up the wireless connection on this PC it shows the wireless networks around. When you ty to log into one with the correct password (even from only inches away) it sticks at "PENDING" for ever.. There is an aditional box not shown in the instruction book on the "ENCRYPTION INFORMATION box which is called "KEY INDEX". Does this play a part?
