I was wanting to know if I were to buy a wireless router, could my wife and I hook up to the internet using two different desktop computers without paying my internet service provider the extra service fee for having two desktop computers online? We want to be online at the same time so, I thought this may work. Please help!

  1. You can use wired or wireless and connect 2 machines. If they are desktops and you want to use wireless you would probably need to also buy wireless cards for each.

  2. Yes, just add the wireless router.  You will hard wire the main computer to the wireless router, then you can buy wireless network cards (if not already in computer), then connect with your home network.  It's really easy to do.

  3. Yes, you can. We do in our house. Doing this is not fraudulent, and some ISPs offer instructions for doing this.

You need to get your ISP username and password programmed into your router, so that when it (and the modem) powers up, it transmits what is required for your ISP to open your connection to the Internet. Then you set up your house computers to talk with the router. The latter is a standard procedure, and instructions for it come with the router.

  4. that depends on your internet provider. usually they give out two different ip's but if you use a router than there is only one registered ip under the router.
