  1. I tried renting a car in Madrid last summer.  I learned a really expensive lesson:  just take a friggin' cab!  Most of the time the cab driver knows exactly where to go, and can get you there in a flash!  It's by far and away the best, quickest, and least frustrating way to get to the hotel.  From there on, you use mass transit, but just get in and get settled, first, then start figuring your way around town.

The things to do in Barcelona are so obvious, I won't even go into the common ones, someone else will give you those.

Go to the Chocolate Museum.  Have Homemade ice cream ANYWHERE on the Ramblas.  Great seafood at the Port end of the Ramblas.  Churros and Chocolate at the Cafe de la Opera, across the street from the Opera building.  Don't stop to eat on the Ramblas, unless you don't mind paying extra, especially for the drinks...the food is reasonable, but you pay through the nose for drinks...it's sort of your ticket for the floor show, though.  Definitely visit the Boqueria.  And, the first thing you should do, if you're thinking about going to the Palau Musica, is check their schedule.  When we got there, on our last day, we couldn't go in for a tour, because they had a rehearsal going during normal touring hours.  So we had to skip it.

Plan to use your feet a lot!

  2. Hi there,  just come back its amazing.  Dont get the taxis outside they were expensive, get the blue aerobus there is one every six minutes cost 4 euros 5 cents. Takes you into the city plenty of room for luggage. Metro is the underground and really easy to use. Go to the machines and select english and your off.  Big maps on the walls should show you where you need to get off.  From the placa de catalunya there is a tourism bus like in london 20 euros for one day and you can go on each of the routes which takes 2 hours each.  You can get off the bus and look round a site and get back on another one a bit later if you wish.  las Ramblas  is amazing, gothic quarter nice too. Enjoy very jealous.  If you go to the ramblas and find out what the blokes with red cans are really! selling please let me know.  We watched from our balcony on las ramblas and every time the police turned up they ran off...... oh last thing waterfall is amazing saturday early evening and sunday illuminated to music.  At the espana stop on the red line.  Will become clear when you get there.  And watch for pick pockets there are plenty around.  Have an amazing time.

  3. We were in Barcelona in December, fabulous place. I would get a taxi to your hotel. With luggage and everything, it is much easier to get there and relax. Once you get there, you can take the buses. I would recommend La Sagradia Familia and the Parc by Anthony Gaudi. They also have a tour bus that will take you all over Barcelona. They give you headphones and tell you all about everything and everywhere. You can get on and off. Be careful of pickpockets. Don't keep anything in your back pockets, careful with purses or bags and money. My husband who is 6'5" had someone try to pickpocket him twice. He said one time we were in a crowd of people and he felt something in his back pocket and since he knew there wasn't anything there, he took a step back and the woman took her hand out and took off running. So, be careful. Barcelona is very beautiful, and the food is fabulous. We only had three days there, but I would go back in a heartbeat. Have a great time. Don't forget to go to Las ramblas.
