Question:

Work experience in fashion?

I am about to go into year 10 and would love to spend my work experience at a fashion magazine. I know it is hard to get in so I was hoping if I entered sooner rather than later I would have a better chance.

Tips would be very helpful.

Oh and I live in London.

  2. Many fashion magazines do not offer work experience to year 10s. And if a magazine offers a work experience placement, then the work experience would be for fashion design students.

Why not try contacting the London College of Fashion? Yes, you're in year 10, and university may seem far away, but they may help you. Tell them that you're a year 10 student looking for work experience in the fashion industry and ask them for any tips.

Or what about your teacher/head of work experience? In the past, students may have found placements to do with fashion. Those placements are normally the ones which have passed the "health and safety" rules and because they have trusted a student from the same school before, they would trust you.

It's hard to find work experience for year 10's in the world of fashion magazines, so why not try working at a local newpaper? Okay, it's not as glamourous (infact, work isn't glamourous, but it's something we have to do), but you will gain experience, and that's what employers look for!

If you get rejcted by a company, don't sob about it, move on. Ask for help, PLENTY of it. It can be help from friends/family/school/colleges. Research the profession, I highly suggest you visit http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/

    Hope this helps!
