World Series 2011 Predictions and Favourites
As soon as the World Series 2010 finished, fans started predicting about the World Series 2011. Will the San Francisco Giants be successful in defending their championship? Will the Yankees be everyone’s favorite once again? Will Cliff Lee lead the Phillies
to championship victory? And on and on. With spring training in full bloom, let’s analyse what we should expect from the teams this year and who the favourites are.
Most people’s favourites are the Yankees, no surprise there. Given their 27 wins, they seem to be a safe bet but is this the year for them? The Yankees needed to upgrade their pitching and they failed to do that. With Cliff Lee choosing the Phillies over
them, it means an extra point for Philadelphia and worry for the Yankees. A. J. Burnett did score as expected last year and other than CC Sabathia their rotation was pretty bland. Given that the line-up hasn’t changed much, it may be possible that 2011 would
be the same for the Yankees. But there’s still hope given that they landed Rafael Soriano which makes their bull-pen even deeper than it was last year. It was good last year, which means this year it will be even better.
The defending World Series Champions took the trophy home because of their excellent pitching and defence formula and it looks like they’re going to apply the same formula this year as well. They have the best pitching line-up and the only thing they needed
to improve upon was their offence which is average to say the best. Hopefully the Giants would improve in the offence department with the arrival of catcher Buster Posey. They are said to be pretty much the best team in the NL West. The Giants strength comes
from their confidence and dominating attitude having just won the World Series last year. This obvious boost will help the team feel as if they are able to take on the best teams and win.
The Phillies left Atlanta in their wake late into the 2010 season. The signing of Cliff Lee was a pretty big offseason move, but where they gained one of the world’s best pitchers, they lost the excellent Jayson Werth to the Washington Nationals. The Phillies
seem to be a hot favourite this season and they are predicted to go quite far in the championship because of a very good pitching line-up and they already have a very powerful offence. Philadelphia’s strength is their pitching, plain and simple.
The Boston Red Sox were very clever to get Crawford and Gonzales. They already have an elite offence this year and these two only add to the excellent line-up. Crawford means that there would be terrific defence and speed and he is expected to put in major
numbers. Their pitching is solid if not the best and with an excellent offence they would probably be a major World Series contender.
These teams seem to be the hot favourite and a lot of fans are putting their hopes on them. What makes a team win is excellent pitching, a strong offence, team coordination and of course a bit of luck. Everyone is training rigorously in the Spring sessions,
let’s see who can strike the right balance and take home the championship.
