Worldwide Question. Genealogy Software.?

We all use Genealogy software to record our Family History.

In your own honest opinion what do you rate as the best & worst Programmes, and why, ratings out of ten.

I'm thinking of changing from FTM 2005, so who better to ask than the people who actually use them, all the time.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I tried PAF,  FTM and Family Origins for Windows about 10 years ago. I liked FOW the best. It has evolved into Roots Magic. I used FOW 6, FOW 8 and RM 3. I'm a computer programmer by trade. I can tell nice work when I see it. RM is well written. Every time I get (and clean up) a GEDCOM from an FTM user I wonder why FTM didn't treat locations like RM does.

As for the worst, I haven't a clue; I suspect there are home-grown shareware monsters out there with bugs that would make you tear your hair out.

  2. I have only used PAF.  It is totally free, easy to use, free updates, free owner's manual.  You can use it as a non-Mormon or Mormon version.

I do not like the program that will put a 100 or 200 year life span to the birth and death dates if you don't know the dates.  FTM (I think).

  3. I have a Mac and use Reunion ... which I love. It is very easy to use and add to.
