Worried about getting firemouth cichlids?

I want to get 3 firemouth cichlids to put in a tank by themselves, but I'm scared they would just tear each other apart. If I get 3 at the same time while they're very young, will they be able to tolerate each other?

If you get a ratio of 1 male to 2 females they should be ok. But my best suggestion is to remove the other female once the male has paired off with a female. It is best to keep them as a single, in a breeding pair, or in large groups. If you are wanting 2-3 of them I would not recommend a tank less than 55 gallons.
