I'm currently residing in las vegas, nevada with my parents. now my parents constantly fight and my mother always threatens to leave. my dad is an extreme alcoholic and my mother is actually bi-polar. i'm having some troubles with the school that i go to. and cant change schools. i just moved here about a year ago from texas. where most of my family lives. my siblings are more than happy to take me in. they'd rather have me than make me put up with my parents. and they and i feel i am not getting adequate education with this school system. i also do not live in a home and am not a nevada citizen im currently living in an extended stay hotel. i am a texas citizen. would i be able to emancipated or would they turn my petition down? is there some way around this?

  1. I'm sorry...I hope everything works out for you.

I'm pretty sure you would have to have a good reason for your emancipation, a secure job to support yourself, and I believe you have to be 18 or over. You might want to do some research on this  to make sure you have everything you need to fight it.

  2. See the site below for the laws in Nevada regarding emancipation. Since  you live in Nevada, you are a resident of Nevada. Also, if your parents agree, you do not need to be emancipated to leave your parents' home.

  3. I am very sorry for your situation...

Well a lot depends on your age. Someone closer to 18 is more likely to be given emancipation that someone who just turned 16.

If you have had behavioral problems with the law or school, this could your your chances, especially if they were rather violent or recent. And your grades in school are also important. The state will not want to let you loose if it seems like you are heading towards dropping out.

They will want to know how you plan on supporting yourself... Food, clothes, shelter.

And if your family in Texas would like to have you, it might be easier to just have your relatives file to have custody of you.

And to strengthen your case it might be good to talk to a counselor about your troubles at home and have them write a professional letter stating that the conditions at home are affecting in this or that way.

I am an adult but my sister has tried to be emancipated from my father after my mother died... She was denied. It isn't easy. If they don't feel you are on the 'right path', they will quickly deny you.

    Good luck!
