Question:

Would You Helpe A Couple?

If you saw them in a car fighting and the man was hitting the woman driver.

They both looked like they were on drugs, and incoherent. A lot of people were present to watch this, and didn't do anything, because he was yelling and screaming.

Most people didn't want to help because they both looked threatening, and people were scared the guy might pull out a gun.

Your thoughts? Would you help people that looked violent or out of it??

  1. As a civilian I would have called the police but not interferred myself.  As an officer I would be obligated by law to respond and sort it out.

  2. Did nobody call the cops? I know that takes time, but it seems in today's world no one wants to help anyone else out or get "involved".  It's sad, bc I just , personally, could not turn my back on someoen if there was something I could do, but then you have to think of repercussions too. Like being sued. We're such a sue happy nation. Still, I think I could sleep better knowing I helped and did the right thing and got sued than did nothing and find out later someone was killed.

  3. It's actually a good idea for someone to just call the police to handle it.  They are in a better situation and are trained to handle different situations.  If someone tried to intervene, out of the kindness of their heart, they could get hurt, killed, or even succeed.  It's too risky and the good Samaritan law wouldn't help them out.  Best to leave it to the professionals.  That's where our tax money goes.

  4. If I were a private citizen accompanied by my family and had no police authority; I would simply place a call to 9-1-1 and wait for police.  Sometimes being a good witness is all you can do.  From a law enforcement stand point, yes I would stop the fight.  They would both be removed from the vehicle and detained until I could piece the incident together.  Despite how lightly they are made on "Jerry Springer", domestic violence situations are very dangerous.  You have to use your discretion, as a citizen, to decide whether or not you want to get in the middle of a situation such as this.  The safety of you and your family are paramount.  If you think that you will jeopardized this, then simply call 9-1-1.  I hope this helps.

  5. No,

    they might have a gun...

  6. You could have called 911 and let the professionals deal with it.
