I am about to get a 32 inch 720p HDTV (Samsung ln32a450) but our house has standard time warner cable. The cable box is in the living room and i have basic cable in my room. Will the built-in HD tuner find any HD channels? If not, how can i keep the box in the living room and still get HD in my room without over-the-air HD channels? Cost?

  1. The HDTV will pick up whatever the cable company is sending. If you have a standard cable box, then you should pick up those channels. Keep in mind most cable companies receive digital, but transmit analog to you. If you have an HD cable box you will have to go through the box to pick up the HD. HD channels are like 3-1, 11-1, 19-1, etc. You HDTV is setup to pick up those channels. Hope this helps.

  2. Not all cable companies have the same policy as to carrying digital transmissions on their basic cable.  There is no reason they can't, but many do not, wanting you to pay extra for digital service.  The only way to find out is to call the cable company and ask if digital RF transmissions are carried on the basic cable.  If so, when your TV scans for channels it should find them.  (Be sure to select "cable" input when you scan.)  Your only alternative if these broadcasts are not available on the cable is to use an antenna.  If you are in a good signal area, an indoor antenna could work.  Get a good one like the Zenith silver sensor.
