i have a 10month old rottweiler puppy and shes extremely friendly, with humans and animals.i have been wanting to get her a new playmate in the shape of a bullmastiff pup (a boy) and was just wondering if they would get along?my rottweiler is a beautiful specimen, perfect in my eyes (you can see her in my asked questions if you like) and i just think a bullmastiff and her sitting together would be quite a team.i love the shape of these dogs.i would just hate it for them not to get along.

  1. I think these two breeds should be quite compatible as long as they are introduced properly to each other.

This is best done in the open so they have room to get away if they want and can monitor each other without having the situation forced on them.  There will be some feeling out to see who is 'Top Dog' the main time there is likely to be friction is when it comes to food!  Make sure from the start who draw up rules for the dogs.  Which bowl belongs to which dog, where they eat and when etc.

Several years ago I had a disabled Cavalier Spaniel who was definitely my top dog.  When I moved to Spain I needed a larger dog as a guard.  I got my second dog from a rescue centre where I could see him interact with other dogs.  I could see he was very friendly with people when introduced to them, but he had the look of a big strong possibly fierce dog to ward off strangers!

The second dog was fed outside and the original inside the house to avoid any nastiness at first.  Eventually the second came into the house but he knew that any aggression towards the smaller dog would not be tolerated!  They soon became the best of friends and the big dog would even come to the little ones 'rescue' when we were cutting his claws.

  2. I think it would be a great match. Both breeds are large and full of energy. I would try a rescue or shelter before you buy from a breeder. You can always rescue an older boy. Since your grl loves everyone.

    Good Luck!!

  3. I have a dog, a female one. We wanted to breed it with our Japanese Spitz. But it was still new and we got it when she finished giving birth(the veterinarian sold it to us). Our Japanese Spitz male and our Shih tzu female were the ones we were planning to cross breed.

Since the girl was new, we had to make the Japanese Spits and her close to each other. Our dogs have cages because when one is inside the others bark a lot(We have 4 dogs at our house). The cage of our Shih Tzu and Japanese Spitz were close to each other. So, after about 3 months, they were ready and they know each other.

Make them get along by making them close to each other like putting them in a cage with enough space for them(but if they are not used to a cage, don't do it). Or if they are not used to it, make a way where they will be close to each other like walking them both together everyday. Just keep the two dogs close. Any dog breed are compatible when they know each other.
