I heard if you smoke menthol cigarettes, then crystalize your lungs...so that way if you wanted to go into outer space, it would cause your lungs to explode and you would die. Is this true!?

  1. Never tried

  2. What I think you're saying is that you heard that if you smoke menthol cigarettes that will crystallize your lungs and that then if you wanted to go into outer space, your lungs would then explode, due directly to the above action --the cigarette smoking, etc., etc. and you would die.  No that isn't true!

But, for the sake of being considered a prude, cigarettes, of any kind including menthol, are bad for anyone's lungs.  However, I don't think they or anything else, that I know of, would "crystallize" them.  Unless, of course, you were cryogenically frozen.  Therefore, I'd have to question the "crystallize your lungs" part.  I don't see how anyone could do that to themselves anyway, and why!

But for the sake of argument, let's say that you wanted to go into outer space.  You wouldn't want to do any of those things---you'd want to go to space camp, then take astronaut training for several years.  Mainly, to learn that one would need to use their space helmet, almost constantly, in order not to asphyxiate themselves.  Because space is, in fact, very cold (not enough to freeze one instantly), but, there is no atmosphere, or air, up there.

I fear, however, that they only take non-smokers.  I do NOT know this for a fact, however, it makes sense, huh?  Having nothing what-so-ever to do with the menthol cigarettes, nor smoking them!

  3. everyone's lungs would explode if you did go into outer space without a space suit.  They would freeze and crystallize instantaneously.  If you're talking about wearing a space suit, then no, this would be a false statement.  Menthol cigarettes are still terrible for you, so be careful and Good Luck.

  4. good. ppl who smoke deserve what they get.

  5. no i dont think they would.

  6. I had trouble getting past the "crystallize your lungs" part.

Edit:  OH, I disagree with lola.  Your lungs would not freeze and crystallize instantly.  Heat does not radiate well in space, so the body would not freeze as fast as you might think.  As for exploding, no.  First, the air would be sucked out of your lungs.  You would suffocate.  You'd lose consciousness in probably ten to twenty seconds and then die of anoxia in a minute or two.  You would not explode.  Nor would you freeze right away.

As far as menthol cigarettes are concerned, I have no idea where that comes from.  Sounds kinda fishy to me.
