Writting a letter to a soilder.?

how do you like do that, like where would you make the letter out to, and stuff? cause one of my friends told me about this and i think it is so cool to be able to talk and bring comfort to them. so if you know anything about like adopting a solider to send letters please help me:]

Years ago a less stringent policy existed whereby you could write any soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine whose address you obtain. Now, the best way is to contact any service-connected organization, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veterans Administration. You should be able to get some addresses to use in writing a service member.

Overseas' units have APO (Army-Air Force Postal Offices) and FPO (Fleet Postal Offices) addresses and the geographical location is never to be included. The FPO or the APO zipcode could either be in California, New York, or elsewhere, so the service member could be stationed anywhere in the world.

One example of an APO address is: HQ, EUSECOM, APO NY 09131

You may discover that the address is in Stuttgart, Germany, but you would never list it as such.

Do a google (or yahoo) search on the subject, these are the two main results with just typing "writing to US soldiers" as a search term:

Just be careful to read the details as far as being free to use and such.  It's sad that some people will exploit these types of things that will help bring comfort to some poor soldier abroad.  Good luck and good for you for doing something like this.
