  1. This might be helpful, and seems like it can be used more than once.

Another thing that might be helpful is Vtech.  If you search Vtech and letters in google you should be able to find it.  It's a write and learn thing.

  2. There are so many "workbooks" out there...even the dollar stores have Leapfrog work books that are colorful and fun...and at 5...he should be able to handle it...just don't "overdo" the workbook!  There also is a Kumon workbook that is very colorful and progressive...not letters but lines...a precurser to letter formation.  There are an abundance of free printables for line, letter, number writing on the internet.  Just search and you will have more than you ever need!

Creating tactile cards such as sandpaper or glitter glue letters is a great way to start learning letter formation. I love to use them and show them how they are written by tracing them and then having them "write" that letter in a writing tray...usually sand, salt, shaving cream and other sensory materials.

    Good luck.

  3. you could buy a writing booklet and have him mimic your letters, but the problem with having childern write things over and over and over is that they become bored and frustrated with themselves when they dont get it right.  You should try hand-over-hand writing.  Which is a style that allows you to get involved as well.  have him hold a pencil and you hold your hand over his.  guide his hand to make letters that way he can get the feel for what its like to write, and you are getting involved as well.  He'll love it even more!  If he wants to try it on his own, let him go!

  4. Look up Jolly Phonics (Im in England) I'm sure its on the web somewhere-they do books to practice forming and recognising letters and sounds.
