X country question...?

i run x country and the season is about to start, my time is not very good right now since i didnt run track, my 2 mile time is around 13:30 (it varies evrytime i run which i HATE) the question is, when im running, i feel like an empty space in my stomach and feel out of energy, i dont know if its because of my eating habits or if its mentally, but do you know what its best to eat to stay and get in shape for a x country race? (3.1 mile asa 5k)

  1. The feeling you're getting is from starting too fast.  It's hard to hold yourself back when everyone else is sprinting from the starting line.  But you'll run better and your times will be more consistent if you can start a little slower and save some of that energy for the last mile.
