  1. No, they have to match or will fail during installation

  2. no it wont work

  3. all you can do is get a xp pro disk install that and use your key. but that key will not work on home edition for sure.

  4. Well, if you have XP Home Ed. CD then why not use its Serial number instead?

It sounds that you have got the XP PRO serial from somebody. Do one thing. Download XP Pro from microsoft's web site or from any other website and then try it. If you purchased the serial number then you can get another copy of the CD. Contact your vendor.

  5. no you cannot. Sorry but you'll have to get a XP PRO CD to install it.

  6. No, it is specific to the "version", upgrade CD's, also have a different key code type, than do the "full install" version. one more of micro soft's ways of bending over their customers

  7. No you can't, but perhaps you have a friend of relative who has a

XP Pro CD. Because you have a genuine key, you can install windows xp pro with any xp pro cd.

  8. No, the two types have two different formats for the keys and they are not interchangeable unfortunately. You could borrow someone else's install disk as long as your Key is valid then everything should be fine.
