Is there anyway to let prospective members to use more that 200 characters? It is impossible to learn very much about a person, or tell much about your self with such a limited information.

I've used over 200 characters with this question!

  1. no, default is 200- for those groups that require more, they often send out an auto file and the groups owner e-mail address for the return reply.

  2. The only way to get more than 200 characters of information from a prospective member is to set up a questionnaire and have it automatically mailed out to pending members.  You are an owner or moderator of this Yahoo Group, right?  If so, and you want to do this, then log in to your Group on the web.  Then click on Files on the left-hand side of the page.  Then click Create Text File towards the upper-right-hand corner.  In the first box of the resulting page, type a name for the file (example - Questionnaire.txt ).  If you want, you can add a short summary/description in the second box.  In the Auto-Send To Members section, check the box for Upon Pending Membership.  Then, in the large File Content box, type the contents of this file that you want automatically sent to prospective members.  I would suggest giving instructions at the top, including to return the completed questionnaire to the Group owners/moderators by e-mail at GroupName-owner@yahoogroups.com (replacing GroupName with your actual Group's name, of course).  You can ask any questions of prospective mebers that you want in this file.  Don't forget to click the Create File button (towards the lower-right-hand corner) when you're done typing in the contents of this file.
