Yamaha XT 550?

Question

I have a chance of a Yamaha XT550 1983 for £750. Apart from the age, is there anything in particular to look out for as a major problem?

I bought a 1996 XT600E with only 17k miles on the clock for £750 three months ago so unless you really want that particular bike then I'd keep looking. Good luck.

I don't know how much L750 is, but  a flattrack racer will give you about $300 for the motor if the cases are in good shape.

listen for big end rumble...cams also tend to wear...check the front pipe where they bolt into the head..they almost always snap when they have to be removed...check rear shock and lower linkages...start it cold and listen for backfires [caused by leaking inlet manifolds]...move carbs up/down there shoud be very little movenent.also look where they boly to the head check for bubbles under the ruber,it means the manifolds will need repared....as youve guesdsed ive done a few for the lads..they now call me the ''xt god''...link below.
