how would you explain yankee doodle song in a british soldier perspective???

dang, its been a while and I don't remember the entire explaination but its a mocking song the Brits used to sing about the backwater Yanks or colonists that lived in America at the time of the War of Independence.  'Yankee' being a term that applied to Americans - and still does I believe.  A 'dandy' being a fop, a rich fool, someone that's over dressed in ruffles and frills.  The strangest part I seem to remember and always wondered about the truth of was that there was a club in Britian at the time called Macaroni or something to that affect and only the highest class of gentlemen were allowed to join it.  The 'Yanks' across the water weren't considered high enough class or taste of course but some of them dressed the way the Macaronis did (feather in their cap) in imitation.  Like a kid that's too young dressing up like an adult and pretending to be grown up.  So the Yankee Doodle Dandy song was a mocking song the Brits would sing about Americans not knowing their place and thinking better of themselves than they should.  Being American of course we adopted it as a slogan and made it a point of proving they should be a bit more concerned with other things outside of how we dressed.
