Question:

Yard Sale: Physical Appeal?

I'm having my first yard sale tomorrow and I need advice on something. My family is contributing so my Mother has helped me set up but there's 2 small problems.

She says people "don't like to bend down" and that if you put anything too low on a table, they won't look at it. We have no actual "tables" for the sale and the saw horse idea fell threw so last minute we had to take buckets, stack them, and put ply wood across them to make tables and pull the trailer around to sit things on it. Will people refuse to "bend down" and look?

Also, she claims people will "trample through your garden, people dont watch where they walk" I dont have a way to really fence off my garden and we're low on cash so I cant really go buy anything to mark it off with. The stuff is far enough away people have no real need to cross my garden but should I post something? I don't want to be a jerk and yell at people or their kids for crossing it. What do you think?

Thanks...sorry if the ?s are lame

  1. You could also ask your neighbors if they have an old tables you can borrow for the day.

  2. People that shop at yard sales will definitely bend down to look at what they are thinking of purchasing. They are usually looking for certain items. You will have drive-bys that look from the street, but you will have some get out and actually look at everything that you have. High or low. Sometimes the best things are not the ones displayed.

  3. I dunno...I am an avid garage saler and I will totally bend down if something interests me. I wouldn't worry about your garden either if its not in the way. One thing though, try not to have things to cluttered or leave anything in boxes. I know from experience it is kind of annoying having to search through boxes and stuff. Also, clothes don't sell very well at garage sales because they are kind of boring to look through. Maybe you should put the really nice clothes, or the ones you really want to sell, in clear view. That's all I can think of. Good Luck with your garage sale!

  4. Every single yard sale I have ever been to I have had to bend down.  If people find something they like, they will bend down to look at it.
