Never saw this before. Does this mean the broccoli is over-ripe?

Of course, I never grew broccoli before, either.

  1. you are late picking.

it is still good but will be a little tough.

  2. The edible part of broccoli is green unopened flower buds. Once they open to yellow flowers, they are beyond the edible stage. Snip off the all the yellow flowers ASAP, and hopefully the plant will produce more green stems with flower buds.

  3. The yellow flowers sprout if the broccoli crowns are not cut and are pollinated by bees.   It then develops little pods with about 7 or 8 seeds.  I have found broccoli to start becoming a bit tougher skinned but can still be eaten, but don`t eat the flowers just the stems when it reaches this stage of growing

  4. Yes, the florets bloomed.  Harvest it before this happens.
