Yao is the best center in the leauge (arguable I know). He out performs Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudamire not by numbers but by his presence on both ends of the floor. You stick Yao underneath the basket and you've just ended any easy lay-up's for the opposing team. You've also just added a post player who can overpower pretty much every center in the league. Yao may not be as strong as some, but he's a lot heavier and taller. Plus that jump shot of his is brutal.

Yi is only top 20 PF in the game. His offense and defense are miles away from Yao's. The only thing for him is his youth, and he's not developing at a right pace.

Yao Ming when healthy is the best center in the league slightly above Dwight Howard. Yi Jianlian is an allright 2nd year player who had an up and down rookie season and ha s the similar stle of play than Yao. In which they rely on an unorthodox jumpshot and are good free throw shooters I meanm that it is unorthodox cause they are centers but Yao is better in shooting, rebounding, you name it.

This question is very arguable due to the fact that Yi has only played 1 season while Yao has played multiple. I would have to say that Yi is better than Yao. Yao has been playing so long and yet he is still horrible. He is so tall that he should leading the league in shot blocking, but he does nothing. Yao is fragile, he can't play rough like Shaq, Amare, KG, or Dwight.  Yao is just a tall present in the paint, he is not consider a threat, he just takes up space. Yao is slow, with his long leagues, he should be the 1st one down the court, in like 5 steps. Yao doesn't have range and can't dribble. As a rookie, Yi has shown more athleticism in his game. He can dribble and has range. Yi is quicker and more into the game than Yao. In a few years, Yi could be a mini asain version of Dirk.(maybe not) Yi is young and has lots of room to grow and he is on his way to becoming a Allstar in the future.
