What is your opinion on male vs female pets? It has been my experience that female pets can be crankier than males. That as a rule, males are more laid back. I prefer male pets but am considering a little girl :o) Your opinion?

  1. Having only had male dogs all my life I couldn't tell you about them. However, I've had both male and female cats and the males do seem much more affectionate. Right now I have a male and female cat, and the female took longer to want attention, where the male was lovey dovey pretty much from the start. One thing I'd definitely recommend is if you get a female cat, get her fixed! We had one that wasn't, and it was really annoying when she went into heat.

  2. I prefer male pets.. When I'm picking a cat or dog, I like the big ole tom cats and the older labs/hounds..  I find most female animals a bit 'fussy' for my tastes..

On the other hand though, my husband prefers female pets. We have three male cats and two female cats and the females preferred him from day one. Two of the male cats strongly prefer me while one male cat seems to like us equally.. Same thing with our dogs. Our female dog likes him more, even though she was my dog a year before I met him. The two male dogs we have prefer me..

I think it has a lot to do with chemistry and personality types. I have female friends that would never own a male dog because they think they're too lazy and dirty. (Like being male has anything to do with being dirty or clean) They have nothing but female dogs that they fuss over and dress up..

  3. well i know for sure with the pets i like, fish and bugs, the females are usually bigger and meaner, like praying mantiss eat the males acter they do it

  4. It depends on the type of animal.

E.g., female rabbits tend to be more 'cranky'- they're territoral as they hit puberty, and come up as a bit 'stroppy'- but female guinea pigs tend to be more timid and more relaxed.

I think female animals tend to be more... 'lively'. Not have more of a personality, but are less likely to sit still when you handle them, and things like that.
