Mine:

I don't understand how somebody can watch a fat, sweaty hypocrite in an Armani suit used with your money "for the greater good", yelling at you and telling you how to live your life... I don't understand how somebody can actually listen to them.

  1. I watch them for the same reason i watch World's Most Funniest Videos - morons acting like they are.

  2. Those people are evil characters usually, trying to brain-wash vulnerable people and that way earn their living expenses.

  3. I find them to be repulsive hate mongering liars . But then I feel the same way about most preachers .

  4. P.T. Barnum would be so proud of them.

But I have to confess that I have a very tiny soft spot for televangelists, at least those who were on late-night TV in the late 1970s -- way before cable/satellite and hundreds of channels 24/7.  I had four; the three networks plus the local.

I also had a very colicky newborn, in addition to a two-year-old and a full-time job.  In order to keep my eyes open while walking and comforting the infant at 1:00 a.m., I flipped on the TV.  My choices: Three test patterns and the PTL Club.  It was so outrageous it was almost theater, and with that and the emphasis on the toll-free number to give-give-give, I was definitely wide awake just from being completely flabbergasted that anyone actually took them seriously.  So in a strange way I owe televangelism my thanks ... at least for two months' worth of late nights.

  5. Neither do I

I think it is all just a scam

  6. Animals preying on the weak willed and the down on their luck.

  7. Frauds.

  8. It's kinda sad.

  9. they are funny to watch when intoxicated.

  10. My opinion, and I keep expecting a lawsuit over this because I name names, is among many others Benny Hinn and Robert Tilton are lying, unethical and lazy atheists. I have been meaning to update my rather lengthy list, and now may be a good time to do it. But my guess is there are a higher percentage of atheists among televangelists than the percentage of Atheists among participants here in this forum. By the way, I typically capitalize Atheist and Agnostic out of respect. Not doing so where I did not here was intentional.

Just a bit of trivia for you, I am a member of the Baha'i Faith, and I believe we are unique in regards to donations. We never, ever pass a collection plate and if you are not an enrolled member, if you try to donate you will be politely refused. If you are a member, anything you donate is strictly voluntary and kept strictly confidential. There is a suggestion, but that is all it is. Out of your net income, figure out what you and your family need for your necessary expenses and subtract that. Then take something to put into savings for your retirement. I am not sure, but it seems it is suggested around two to three thousand dollars a year. If there is something left over, your disposable income, then donate less than twenty percent of that. If you are not an enrolled member and you leave anything to us (the Faith, not us as individuals) in your will, every penny will be given to a charity that has no connection with the Baha'i Faith.

Also, there is no clergy of any kind in the Baha'i Faith. No preachers, no clergy, no priests, no evangelists? Hard to have televangelists if you are like us. And while I believe there are some worthy of respect, most of them I find hard to stomach. In my opinion.

Regarding televangelists, did I say this was my opinion? Carefully considered, defensible and reasoned, but still my opinion. Take that, you suit hungry lawyers. (Oops, am I in more trouble?) That's OK. Let them sue me. Do you know who Yahweh's attorney is? He and I are on first name basis.

  11. Generally negative.  I don't have a problem with a local church broadcasting their services on cable...I don't even have a problem with religious programming in general.

...but the "fat, sweaty hypocrite in an Armani suit" type that spends most of their time either asking for money, engaging in political activism, or blaming the sins of others for all the problems in the world...I think they are false prophets...and people listen to them because they are too lazy to do the work to seek God's will for themselves...most likely the same people that buy crapola from infomercials and QVC too!

  12. I'm not into it. it's so fake and it makes me feel ashamed that there are people out there willing to "solicit" the word of God....excuse me, THEIR version of the word of God.

  13. I am thankful for televangelism....I don't like some programs, but most of them I enjoy.......it is the word of God, what's not to like?
