Yugioh, Synchro monsters

Question

I just picked up the new 5d's starter, and i have a question about synchro summoing, i know in the rules it says that the combined levels of the monsters used as tributes have to be equal to the level of the syncro monster, but would it be allowd to use cards whos levels are higher than the monster, like with ritual summons?

The levels of the monsters used MUST EQUAL the level of the Synchro monster you are trying to summon.  So if you want to Summon Stardust Dragon, then the total level stars must be 8.  You can use as many monsters as you want however as long as one of them is a Tuner monster and there are no specific monsters needed.

It must be equal to summon it. EXACTLY equal or it won't work. So if your trying to summon an 8 star synchro monster, good luck! Most tuners are three stars so it will be tough.

I recommend to try getting cards that changes the level of a monster.

as far as i know it must be equal level to the synchro monster ... not completely sure but every time i have been told about it they have said equal level
