Zahi Hawass?

I'm just wondering what Egyptians and egyptologists think of him. I think he is a great man as he is trying to protect Egyptian history by things such as returning stolen artifacts to the country. However, I also understand that some think he is egotistic and that he is trying to dominate the field of egyptology by doing things like not allowing people to announce their own findings. What do you think of him? x

  1. he is hardworking and enthusiastic .

he makes a big job in his field .

he is proud of his work , so he gives the impression that he is egotistic .

his hat is recognized as a trade mark .

ok , this is part of his egoism , but nothing takes away from his great work.

  2. I think he is the white supremacist puppet and is hiding the REAL truth about Egyptian History..

  3. I ADORE him, he's one of the few people who are GOOD in what they do, i don't think he's egotisical at all, he knows how to defend Egyptian history.

I like him most when he proved to the world that pyramids were built by egyptians not jews when declared the discovery of "WORKERS' VILLAGE" as the names of workers were pure egyptian

  4. I love and respect him

  5. I only knew about him through Egypt air flights. I think he is hard worker, and it's good to have people like him working in Egypt. hope all people work with the same sincerity

  6. Zahi used to be my hero and i admired him very much. But a few years back there was a small exhibition at the side of the museum in Cairo. It was supposed to be 100 interesting artifacts and was arranged to celebrate the centenary of the museum i believe. A lot of money was spent on arranging the exhibition, air conditioning was installed and state of the art display cases etc. Yet the exhibition was never properly finished. Labeling was missing or incorrect and poorly spelt (yes i know i can talk but i would never allow anything of that calibre into the public domain with out spell checking first) and some of the cases were never completely filled. Zahi publicised his part in the organisation of this heavily. it was his idea and his project. Now call me picky but would you allow sub-standard work in your brain child. i would have bent over backwards to ensure that my project was as perfect as i could get it. My estimation of the man went down after that. the exhibition was only open for a short time, the artifacts were gradually removed leaving a half resourced exhibition 2 or 3 years later and presumably the state of the art display cases are still there.... empty.

Since that time i have been quite critical of him and his work, he rarely gives credit to others and often makes unsubstantiated claims. now i am not Egyptian or sadly an Egyptologist, but i am an enthusiastic amateur and if i can spot this, how much more will his fellow professionals.
