"And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;" (Gen 18:20)

If there's a 'cry', does that mean there were innocent people affected by hail/brimstone?

  1. ....and because their sins is very grievous.

They all are guilty in the sight of God. To them they are only living a life of their sexual preference. They cannot see themselves sinning against God.

  2. Sodom and Gomorrah were known to have been full of evil men for centuries. See also Gen: 13.13

The 'cry' or 'outcry;' in some Bibles, is a reference too: 'Righteous indignation.' Which caused the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

  3. Because the cry (English)

    za`aq (Hebrew)

    1) cry, outcry

    ...a) outcry

    ...b) cry of distress

    ...c) outcry, clamour

    Does this make it clearer?

  4. Bible seems very difficult to understand if you start from the wrong end

    of stick

In order to solve Bible questions... first, you have to look at it from the point of view that god is almighty and is always right under any cercumstances.

To Answer your question : There was great cry of pain and suffering but that does not mean they are innocent. There are great cry of suffering even in h**l and people are not sent in h**l because they are

evil but rather they could not be saved in time.

    [Proverbs 21 : 13]

      13. If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Sodom and Gomorrah was punished because they did not want to listen and the basis of christianity and the whole belief comes from listening to god's words

    [Romans 10 : 17]

      17. Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

If they are not trying to listen, there is only so far that god can do...and

aside from being innocent.... If they could be saved God would not have

wipe them out for we are all god's children sinners or non sinners and he loves us all.

Do you feel joy in the pain and suffering of your own children ? of course not.. and so does god... but what has to be done must be done.

    [Job 9 : 11 - 15]

      11. When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.

      12. If he snatches away, who can stop him? Who can say to him, 'What are you doing?'

      13. God does not restrain his anger; even the cohorts of Rahab cowered at his feet.

      14. "How then can I dispute with him? How can I find words to argue with him?

      15. Though I were innocent, I could not answer him; I could only plead with my Judge for mercy.

Basically what I am trying to say is who are we to judge god... we are

    like ant to him.

  7. Where there is rampant sin there are victims.  Just look at what the town folk wanted to do to the Angles just prior to the destruction of S and G.  I think the "cry" is there's.  Wether or not they were innocent is of God.
