Question:

"Looking for a sickness"?

I'm writing a novel. I have a character that has to have a fatal disease. The character apparently has survived this disease but it has to come back, deadlier this time, after two years. Preferrably no direct symptoms.

I'm thinking of cancer but what kind then? I'm considering leukemia but it has become quite common...

Thanks. God bless.

  1. Bone marrow cancer?  That's pretty rare, and painful.

  2. breast cancer. you can maybe miss seeing a lump. or one couldve spread if you didnt have chemo. but it is a morbid sounding novel as it sounds like real life :-(

  3. tb.

  4. Maybe an accident? Coz i think the hero/heroine getting an illness is becoming too much of a cliche.

But if you are sure maybe umm..

Thrombocytopenia, or a lower than normal number of platelets, is usually diagnosed because a person has abnormal bruising or bleeding.

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a condition in which the immune system attacks and destroys platelets.

Hemophilia, an inherited condition that almost exclusively affects boys, involves a lack of particular clotting factors in the blood. People with severe hemophilia are at risk for excessive bleeding and bruising after dental work, surgery, and trauma. They may experience episodes of life-threatening internal bleeding, even if they haven't been injured.

Von Willebrand disease, the most common hereditary bleeding disorder, also involves a clotting-factor deficiency. It affects both males and females.

I really like your idea about leukemia, but i think the above illnesses are more uncommon and therefore "interesting" so it would attract your future readers' attention.

    HAVE FUN writing! :)

  5. Maybe epilepsy? It can be a mild case which medicine has cured but then can come back. Not many people know about epilepsy, but it is basically where someone has a seizure and (in mild cases) mumbles about things or in more sereve cases falls to the ground, mumbling and seizing (like twitching).

Good luck writing your book, I hope my knowledge has helped.
