Regnerative medicine?

Can skin be regenerated flawlessly? I mean there are talks about regenerating limbs, fingers, organs etc. The first step will be skin right?

  1. Regenerative Medicine (aka "Tissue Engineering") has limited clinical application currently.

    Though there *are* skin replacements, and graft materials which encourage skin healing, they are nowhere near perfect yet. for example, they don't currently allow for the growth of hair follicles, or melanocytes. So what you effectively regenerating is large areas of scar tissue (though this is obviously much more preferable than no skin at all).

    Skin is actually a complex organ with many different tissues within it. The most successful Regenerative Medicine applications in the field are currently for much simpler tissues like the bladder, the heart, and cartilage.
