HELP!! Im unsure of which route to go with our bottle choice for our baby. I am trying to do our registry and someone mentioned to me that the AVENT (which I have on it now) are unsafe because of BPA when you microwave/heat them. This person told me I should consider the PLAYTEX drop in kind. I plan on breastfeeding and bottle feeding(with breastmilk) so I have heard that you aren't supposed to microwave breastmilk anyways...... SOoo....Im still not sure if I should stick with my orignal decision and go with the AVENT brand or if you mothers out there reccommend using the drop in kind. I read over the box at target and being a first time mom the drop in kind seemed kind of complicated..We also do not have a dishwasher so the bottles will all be handwashed anyway. Just looking for some advice....Thank you!!!

  1. Playtex Drop Ins.

  2. drop ins are better, easier to clean, and have proven to give babies less gas

  3. Drop ins are actually a lot easier and more convenient. If you want to warm breast milk you should put a bottle warmer on your registry. Or just run the bottle under hot water in the sink for a minute or two.

  4. I too am breastfeeding and my daughter HATED the avent bottles. The nipples were too hard. The playtex drop ins were the best. The nipples were nice and soft like the breast. And the liners are BPA free and proven to reduce gas. The playtex is one of the easiest to do. Better and cheaper than any dr.brown or stuff of the like. Plus they have been around much longer and still going strong. You never have to sterilize or clean a bottle. It is very simple and just drop a liner in. I too use the cheap brands of liner and it is just the same as playtex.

    My advice.....go with the playtex.

  5. To be honest, I use drop-ins and they are SO convenient. If you don't have a dishwasher, then it's even better because you take the liner out and throw it away after you use it. You just clean the nipple and the outside of the bottle. They aren't complicated at all, you just buy the liners to go in the bottles. They have a lip in them so they fit into the bottle, then you s***w on the top like a regular bottle and you're good to go. Also nice to have when your out and about and cant rinse out the bottle, you just put a new liner in.

Also, they don't have any of the bad plastic in them at all. They are the safest route for plastic bottles. The only other kind of bottles that don't have BPA are glass bottles and those are a pain.

There is a bottle warmer that is safe to use breastmilk in. I warmed the milk in the bottle warmer in the plastic I froze it in then transferred to the bottle. Or you can use hot water in a cup to warm it.

    Hope this helps!

  6. drop ins the best! and its anti colic

  7. Playtex drop-ins - absolutely go with them!  Easy - gets the air out and easy clean-up!  Trust me - I have tried EVERY bottle------and I mean every type----and the playtex worked the best!

Also, Avent does contain BPA (not the drop-in AVENT - but I had an awful experience with those.  Good luck!

  8. dropins are wonderful. just dont buy playtex brand refills. i buy off brand whenever possible. they are GREAT.

  9. hot soapy water is all you need, all your mother had; boil them if directed in instructions , if not just scrub!

my gals only supp to have the nips and vents boiled and she's still thriving!! we have a dw but i don't want the residue, i would rather wash them and rinse them in really hot water and i KNOW they are clean...the DO NOT NEED TO BE STERILE NO MATTER WHAT SOME ADVERTISER, ETC TRIES TO INSTILL IN YOUR HEAD...it's just another sorry marketing scam to scare the h**l out of new parents so that they think everything has to be sterile...your house, laundry, car, bed, car seat, sofa, clothes, nothing else is sterile....your baby will survive all those...they just scare ppl needlessly; you mom didn't have a sterilizer or a dishwasher most likely and you were probably bottlefed, maybe not, but still....your breast is covered in bacteria, your natural body flora....not sterile...you shouldn't worry so much about bpa anyways, first it's c**p, second if you primarly bf then your baby's exposure would be minimal at best....i hate the way they try to scare ppl into buying things they don't need...:O(
