Question:

Regular periods and PCOS

My husband and I have been ttc for 11 months with no luck. My doctor took a blood test and told me I have PCOS. However, I have had a normal period since I started having them. Has this happened to anybody else. If not, could I just have hormonal imbalance which is causing infertility?

  1. Do you have any of the other symptoms? I.e. unexplained significant weight gain in the abdomenal area, thick course hair on your face and other unusual places, acne... I had a Dr. diagnose me with PCOS, and then later my usual OBGYN looked at my medical records, and basically "un-diagnosed" me. I am now pregnant with my 3rd child. I think PCOS may be one of those things that is over-diagnosed. If you are having regular periods, it seems like you would be ovulating, and able to get pregnant. I don't know what to tell you about that...good luck!

  2. I have PCOS and had "normal" periods while i was on birth control but as you know that makes you bleed with NO Ovulation. So you might be having a period now but not Ovulation which is why you are having trouble concieving. We have been TTC for 1.5 years .... stick with it you might need Metphormin to help your body ovulate or clomid ... get and US to see if you have cyst also PSOC causes hair growth on the tummy and face ... weight gain...

    Good Luck

  3. I've been diagnosed with pcos with the use of blood test, and hair growth, (just not weight gain) otherwise the blood labs fall into classic pcos. I don't have normal periods. PCOS does cause the abnormal hormonal imbalances usually with testosterone, fsh, and Lh levels. These all factor in ovulation, periods and conceiving.
