Question:

Regulator on gas meter?

While I was out my gas meter (which is located outside) was tested but failed as my "regulator did not pass inspection". What does that mean? Ive booked Siemens to come out in a couple of weeks (they did the test) but is this anything to worry about?

  1. I don't want to scaremonger but i did see a scam on one of those consumer tv shows where 'meter men' come to read the meter then tell you you need a new bit and offer to do it cheap for cash there and then.

I guess if you rang siemens yourself this probably isn't one of them - just wanted to warn you tho.

  2. they want to fiddle the meter to a hiher tarrif so you pay them more money .

  3. If it was found that the working pressure was incorrect the gas supplier must be informed immediately by the person doing the job.it is a fully compensating constant pressure governor ie if you have one appliance or 4 appliances turned on it should supply gas at a constant 21mb + or - 2 mb.only the gas supplier or nominated representitive can break the seal for adjustment .if this is the case it should have been dealt with straight away and not left for a couple of weeks.

  4. You shouldn't have anything to worry about as the gas meter is owned by the gas supply company not you. Any costs incurred are theirs. Be careful to establish this before you let them commence work.

  5. Cancell siemens immediately, as others have stated the govenor is the responsibility of your gas supplier. Also the working pressure can only be checked with appliances alight. A visual check will tell them nothing, unless there is an obvious gas leak.

  6. Nothing to worry about. The regulator is properly called a Gas Governer, and it is that round shaped aluminium thing on your gas meter. mains gas pressure in the street is a hundred times greater that the pressure in a house. so to reduce this pressure for domestic use the pressure is reduced by using a gas governer. It is a spring loaded device and it is set to domestic pressure by the gas board by use of a manometer and adjusted until the incoming pressure is about 12 inches water gauge. They will change this governer and it is the gas boards responsibility, so there is no cost to you.
