Rehman apologizes to fans and family for his dope offence – Cricket News Update
Disgraced Pakistan spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691 has apologized to the Pakistan Cricket Board, his fans and family for the dope offence, and has vowed to make a strong comeback after serving a three-month suspension imposed on him by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
“I apologise to my family, the PCB, the ECB, Somerset County Cricket club, my teammates and my fans,” said the left-arm orthodox bowler after he was banned by the England and ECB for twelve weeks taking prohibited recreational drugs.
“It was an error of judgement on my part that will cost me dearly and I would like it to be a lesson to all others in sports and elsewhere.”
“I’ll do my best to stay fit and focused during my suspension and god-willing will be available for selection for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 series should the PCB see it fit for me to be selected,” he added further.
The 32-year-old Pakistan Test cricketer was tested for doping during his stint with English county Somerset in August this year. Laboratory analysis of a sample provided by Rehman, who picked up 14 wickets in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 last month, confirmed the Adverse Analytical Finding for cannabis, a prohibited substance under the ECB’s Anti-Doping Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code. Consequently, he was banned by the ECB for twelve weeks for the dope offence, and will stay out of international cricket until Friday, midnight December 21, 2012.
Reacting promptly to Rehman’s wrongdoings in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also banned the left armer for an indefinite period.
“We’ve asked the ECB to send us all the details regarding his case...till then he is banned to play cricket,” said a PCB spokesman while reacting on the ban imposed on the off-spinner by the ECB during a media interaction here on Wednesday.
He was due to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, but PCB has withdrawn him from the squad.
Rehman has to date played 17 Tests and 25 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, and has been an integral part of Pakistan’s Test squad of late.
