West Brom defender Steven Reid has heaped praise upon young right-back Billy Jones and believes the player is developing into a top professional at the club.
The Baggies defender has praised Jones, who is his direct rival for a first team right-back spot in West Brom’s starting 11. Reid believes that Jones is blossoming into a top Premier League professional, and is confident that the youngster will soon be able
to replace him.
Jones found his way into the starting 11 this season under new manager Steve Clarke, who has shown great faith in the young right-back. Even though Jones has struggled in some games, he has demonstrated a lot of potential, and it has not gone unnoticed.
Reid missed last Sunday’s goalless draw against West Ham due to an injury and had to watch as Jones took his place in the starting 11 and impressed with his performance. Clarke was full of praise for the right-back following the game, and believes that he
is a player for the future.
Jones joined West Brom from Preston City, and is only in his second Premier League season. Reid, who is six years Jones’ senior, believes that the youngster has risen to the challenge and shown great maturity in the face of pressure and expectations.
The former Blackburn player said:
“Billy’s been first class this season when he’s played, especially during the four game winning run we had, he was on top form. We get on well, he’s come from the lower leagues like me and we have a great relationship. I’ve been fully impressed with what
he’s done, last season when he got his chance, and kicking on again this season.”
“He’s been in great form. He’s taken to Premier League life with ease really. He’s a good, solid player and a great lad as well. He’s got the right blend and is doing really well.”
Reid believes that Jones is on track towards a great career and does not need any advice or encouragement from anyone else. The player did however say that he is available for a chat whenever any of the young West Brom players want to approach him or ask
for advice.
