Reid takes the lead at Daishin Securities Tomato M Korea European Ladies Masters
Melissa Reid preserved a share in the lead after the second round of the Daishin Securities Tomato M Korea European Ladies Masters, which was taking place in Jeju, South Korea.
The English girl drafted a magnificent round of 69 in presence of bright sun at Haevichi Country Club to surge up with a grand total of five-under-par. She was joined by South Korean, Soo-Jin Yang.
23-year-old Reid clutched the outright lead with the help of three birdies in her opening holes and jumped two shots ahead of the entire field when she swung her putter for a 40-foot birdie at the par-five last hole of front nine. However, her lead slowed
down, when she missed a three-foot putt on the par-four 13th.
Speaking to the press Reid said that she played quite well on the front-nine and hit few pretty close shots. However, on the back nine she slowed down as she lost her momentum. She explained the reason behind her faltering pace; she was suffering from cold,
therefore, she could not give her best.
Reid is currently number three in Europe and is eyeing the number one title, but with a condition like this not much can be expected out of her.
Reid exclaimed, “I was getting quite tired towards the end and struggling with my striking. All in all, I would have taken 69. It was tough, the pins were tough today. It was a tough day for us. I haven't played great the last couple of weeks so I'm not
really expecting anything but I did a great couple of days work coming into this event and I guess things have fallen into place. My swing wasn't feeling right last week at all and I figured it out a bit too late. Me and my caddie Lee (Griffiths) just did
a bit of work on that and short game early in the week."
The 23-year-old had an opportunity to claim her second professional title in Korea last Sunday, but she failed. However, the LET player is confident of herself. At the same time she envied Yang’s game and said, “Yang’s start was also spectacular, with four
birdies in her first six holes for a matching outward total of 32. However she picked up three more birdies and two bogeys for an inward half of 35 and was five-under for the day.”
Reid delivered excellent putting and was superb with the irons. Despite of her unsuitable health condition, the player coped with the greens, which were hard enough to roll the ball away from the pin. On the other hand, the 2008 champion Hee-Kyung Seo fired
a round of 69 and took a share in the third place with Young-Ran Jo and Soo-Young Moon. The trio scored 3-under-par.
One shot behind was a group of eight players including Julieta Granada who drafted a round at par and Julie Yang, who settled at a 71.
Granada was very happy with her initial game, but was disappointed with what happened later. The lady who hails from Paraguay picked up a single birdie on the front nine, but bogeyed the 12th
due to lack of concentration. A shot behind was Dewi-Claire Schreefel who picked up four birdies against three bogeys to take the 14th spot.
Lee-Anne Pace scored three-over-par to take a share in the group of eight. Laura Davies, who is currently the number two, slammed a terrible round of 71 to her glorious season of four victories. However, she has improved considerably from the first round
in which she scored a 78.
This is it for the second round of Daishin Securities Tomato M Korea European Ladies Masters, which was taking place at Haevichi Country Club.
