Reigning champion now becomes host for championship
After claiming and manifesting their victory at the UK University Darts Singles Championships last year, York will now be hosting the event beginning from the 18th of February.
The student from York, Kirk Bevins, was the runner-up last season, after facing defeat at the hands of Matthew Howard, a graduate from Edge Hill University.
This is the second time York, a university based in Heslington, will be hosting the event.
It is important to mention here that for a long period of time, the event has been considered pivotal in churning out valuable talent and skilful players in the field and game of darts.
According to Bevins, his position every year has been increasing since 2010. He said, “I was third in 2010, and second last year, so hopefully this pattern will continue”.
In addition to this, it is also anticipated that further excitement and exhilaration will be added to the event because of more competitive teams taking part in the prestigious darts tournament.
This can further be manifested from the fact that UDUK will also be affiliating with the University Darts Association Ireland and also with the United Darts Corporation (UDC).
The administration of universities and governing bodies of darts seriously believe that these alliances will play a vital role in enlightening the image of darts.
With the help of these efforts, understanding and knowledge about darts will definitely increase among individuals taking part in the different type of events taking place in the championships organised.
Also, the event has been of immense significance for York as its pair, Alex Harrison and Andrew Mayhill, were able to defeat UDAI team in the event held last year.
Hence, they currently hold a strong position when it comes to team work. Experts believe that the kind of game exhibited in such events manifests the future of darts.
According to them, the kind of teamwork that defines York will particularly be helpful in events such as the World Cup of darts, where it is just not the skill of a darts player, but also their collective coordination and chemistry which comes into play
while playing.
