Reigning world number one, Nicol David enlisted in Hall of Fame – Squash News
Malaysian squash sensation, Current World No.1, Nicol David, will soon be included in the list of Hall of Famers for her outstanding performances in squash. On November 5th, she was inducted in this category during World Squash Awards programme at the World Open Championship/WSF AGM, hosted in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Media members surrounded her at the awards arena and while press conferencing, she said, “It is truly fantastic and I am really honoured. But even though I have been playing the professional circuit for over ten years this honour doesn’t mean I plan to finish yet!” added the hugely popular Penangite”.
She won Rotterdam title and secured her sixth women’s World Open title. 28-year-old, Nicol David, has been consistently performing throughout the year and reached in advanced rounds of almost all major tournaments of the tournament and is looking extremely devastating in her tour to Rotterdam.
World No.1 started her career in 2001 in biennial world junior tournament and delighted the crowd with her eye-startling display of all-round shots. She won the title and that marked a thumping start to stupendous career. She broke into top ten world players in 2005 and then climbed to the top spot in March 2006.
Since, then she has maintained that spot and never allowed anyone to sneeze closer to that place either. Recently she broke the record of longest reigning World No.1 in the history of women squash and her career highlights involved majestic 55 World Tour titles including five world title records, sharing the top spot with Sarah Fitz-Gerald for winning most world titles.
She has been the brand ambassador for her country on several sporting events across the globe. In Malaysia, she has been promoting squash at all platforms and has been working with other sporting officials to nurture squash players from root level.
Nicol David was awarded sportswoman of the year award from Malaysian government for the sixth time in a row, this year. It is remarkable for any woman to experience such an amazing career at the elitist level. Her legacy of supreme performances at squash courts will be written in golden words in history books.
