http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672, has claimed that he has hit his best form since making a return from injury, and vowed to improve even further as the season progresses.
The Spanish International sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty earlier, sidelining him for seven matches. It made way for the reserve shot stopper, Brad Jones, in the starting eleven.
However, since his return to action, the 30-year old has been nothing short of phenomenal at front of the goal, keeping four clean sheets in his seven appearances.
Earlier, the player underwent a dismal start to the campaign, committing multiple costly errors which cost his side dearly. Consequently, rumours started to emerge that the Anfield chief, Brendan Rodgers, might do away with him in the January transfer window,
with clubs such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 having already confirmed their interest in the veteran Spaniard.
Nonetheless, Reina has claimed that he shrugged aside the disappointment of his poor start and has now reached the top of his game.
He said that he wiped the slate clean before returning back to the team’s fold, making a fresh start altogether, and feels that his performance will only improve as the season goes on.
“I'm on the way to my best. I was a little bit upset with myself [earlier in the season] and it was a time to show a bit of commitment and get a fresh start from zero - and that's what I've tried to do. I feel fresher, I feel lighter and I am ready for more,”
he told the club’s official website.
Liverpool boast an impressive defensive record so far, having shipped just 20 goals in their 16 league outings. The Merseyside club have been particularly impressive in the last couple of months, suffering just a single defeat in their last 11 matches.
The Spaniard attributed the team’s remarkable recent upsurge to the splendid efforts of the backline, insisting that they have come a long way since their calamitous start.
“I've always said a good team is built from the back and this is no different. There's no doubt that the more clean sheets we keep, the better it'll be for the team,” he added.
