i installed it but i think i may have deleted it?

You can reinstall XP without losing data, though you will lose your programs. You'll need the appropriate disc, i.e. XP Home if you have Home or Pro if you have Pro. Then, when you go to install again, it will detect your old XP and ask you if you want to do a repair install. Check out the link for more details.
