Reja praises fans for a warm welcome and optimistic for a great season: Serie A news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 manager, Edy Reja, has praised the fans for a positive response after the draw against Palermo and is hoping for a great season.
The Biancazzurri were held to a 0-0 draw by the Rosanero in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olimpico Rome on Sunday, September 25, 2011. After a shock defeat at the hands of Genoa in the second week of the campaign, Reja was heavily booed by the Rome fans
forcing him to hand his resignation to the Club President, Claudio Lotito.
Lotito rejected the manager’s resignation and convinced him to stay after holding talks with the players and the manager. The home fans took a big U-turn and welcomed the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 manager with a warm reception in the Sunday’s game.
Reja insisted that he is hopeful of a brilliant season with the club and believes that it will take some time before the new players gel in. The manager is happy with his defensive department and is hopeful that the team will improve in other areas as well.
Reja said, “This year we have changed some players, and it then becomes difficult to quickly find the best solutions. We are not yet sufficient, but brilliant above all else is that we are improving defensively. The other departments have moved well and
from the second half when we pushed forward we created a lot and looked like scoring.”
The Biancocelesti signed new strikers in the form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miroslav-Klose-c26049 and Djibril Cisse during the summer and despite that, they finished the game goalless. However, Reja defended the strikers and believes that the Palermo shot-stopper denied them with some
lovely saves.
“It is the first time this season we end a game without goals, something that is to the merit of their goalkeeper who put in a great performance."
The Biancazzurri are currently placed on the 10th spot on the league table and find themselves three points behind the league leaders, Juventus. Lazio will take on Fiorentina in their next game on Sunday, October 2nd, 2011.
