Rejuvenated Juventus find form as Udinese are brushed aside
Juventus’ earlier in the season were abysmal to say the least. The club had managed only one point from their two opening matches. Their Europa league adventure started off with a 3-3 draw against European minnows Lech Poznan. Luigi Delneri’s side was coming
under heavy fire after spending nearly 80 million Euros in transfers. On Sunday, Bianconeri were up against Udinese who have been disastrous so far this season. Owing to the poor form displayed by both sides, a draw was on the cards but Juventus decided to
turn up with fire in their bellies.
In a completely one sided display, Juventus dismantled the Zebrette with a 4-0 score line. The fact that they won away from home added more glitter to their victory. Milos Krasic wrecked havoc on the right wing all night long. His mazy dribbles, sublime
skill and deadly accurate crosses were too much to handle for the likes of Maurizio Domizzi and Andrea Coda. His skill resulted in two assists; however the winger was unlucky not to find his name on the score sheet.
The midfield was completely dominated by Claudio Marchisio. Why he was being played on the left by Alberto Zaccheroniand as an attacking midfielder by Marcelo Lippi for the Azzurri is beyond comprehension. On current form, he is one of the best midfielders
around. Marchisio is in contract renewal talks with the hierarchy at Juventus and these kinds of performances will merit a decent raise. Felipe Melo looked like vintage Melo after a long time and Bianconeri faithfuls will be hoping his calamitous performances
are over.
The evergreen Del Piero might have lost the spring in his feet but his brain is still a football genius. Juventus will be looking up to him in crunch ties to lead by example. Iaquinta made his comeback after injury layoff and got off to a scoring start.
With Amauri back in a few weeks, Juventus will have a deadly aerial presence if Krasic keeps on providing the type of crosses he produced last night.
Simone Pepe however was once again a headless chicken. He was completely anonymous against his former side. From his performances so far, he looks to be a very poor transfer. Luigi Delneri was found shouting at him for the entire evening. Juventus must dig
deep in the January transfer market and sign a top class left sided midfielder. Antonio Cassano is being tipped as an ideal candidate for the left side role but he won’t be available until next season. Even with three points in the bag and the clock ticking
88 minutes, Delneri would scold his players in case they lost concentration for even a single moment. One could feel how much this victory meant to the coach.
Juventus have registered their first Serie A win of the campaign but should not read too much in to the result. The defence was completely untested. Indeed Marco Storari was a mere spectator for a majority of the ninety minutes. The defence will be tested
when Juventus line up against the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli and Sampdoria. Grygera and Marco Motta had easy games last night but their defensive ability will be tested to extremes against stronger sides. It is often said that leagues are won or
lost against weaker oppositions. With AC Milan and AS Roma both stuttering against weak oppositions so far, Juventus must take advantage of their poor form and build up a points buffer for the Champions League spot
As for Zebrette, they sit at the bottom of the Serie A charts and things don’t look too bright. Last year, it was the brilliance of Di Natale that saved them. Udinese faithfuls will be praying that their skipper finds top form again or the Udinese might
suffer the humiliation of relegation.
